FAQ & size guidelines

What is Gifoid? +
A searchable library of gifs and custom emoji, curated from public sources. Every item comes pre-processed into two ready-to-upload files — one sized for Slack, one for Discord — so you can skip resizing images and guessing at file-size limits yourself.
What size does Slack require for custom emoji? +
Slack's own limit is a hard 128KB per image — even one byte over is rejected, with no auto-compression on their end. Recommended dimensions are around 128×128px (Slack accepts anywhere from 18×18 up to 1024×1024 and crops/resizes on upload). Accepted formats are PNG, JPEG, or GIF; animated emoji must be a GIF of 50 frames or fewer.
The Slack download on every Gifoid page is built to exactly these rules: 128×128px, under 128KB.
What size does Discord require for custom emoji? +
Discord's limit is 256KB per image, static or animated. Dimensions are more flexible — Discord resizes on upload — but images are commonly uploaded around 128×128px. Accepted formats are PNG, JPEG, GIF, WEBP, or AVIF; animated emoji need to be a GIF.
Since Discord's budget is double Slack's, the Discord download on Gifoid is built a size class up from the Slack one — up to 256×256px, under 256KB — so it actually looks sharper, not just technically compliant.
How do I add one to my Slack workspace? +
Download the Slack version, then in Slack go to Settings & administration → Customize workspace → Emoji → Add Emoji, upload the file, and give it a name. You'll need permission to add custom emoji in your workspace.
How do I add one to my Discord server? +
Download the Discord version, then go to your Server Settings → Emoji → Upload Emoji, pick the file, and name it. You'll need the "Manage Expressions" permission on that server.
Is Gifoid affiliated with Slack or Discord? +
No. Gifoid is an independent project. "Slack" and "Discord" are used here only to describe which platform each download is sized for.
Where does the content come from? +
The library is curated from public gif/emoji sources. See our Terms for how content ownership and removal requests work.
